madame butterfly：歌劇”蝶々夫人”より「蝶々夫人」

This stage production features various interpretations of Madama Butterfly from different genres. It visualizes four emotional states of a single Butterfly. Through the presence of multiple soldiers, geishas, and other characters surrounding Butterfly, the historical backdrop is amplified, evoking fragments of the Meiji era—a time that somehow feels nostalgic.

The focus is placed on the transformation of human emotions over time, expressed through the distinctive quality of Japanese dance—shigusa (gestures)—without falling into abstraction. The work is a dance theater that fuses dance and drama.

As the saying goes, “Sometimes a single gesture can move the heart more than a hundred words.” The aim was to visualize emotion, grounded in the belief that expressing what words cannot convey through the body is a universal pursuit across all artistic genres.

この舞台には、いろいろなジャンルの蝶々夫人が登場。一人の蝶々夫人の4つの心 情の視覚化。複数の兵士や芸者、蝶々夫人を取り巻く様々な人々により、時代背景 を増幅させ、なぜか懐かしい明治という時代の一片を舞台上に提示させる。また、 時間のながれのなかで 変容する人間の心理に焦点をあて、それを『仕草』という 日本舞踊の特質で、抽象にならずに観せていくところに主眼をおく。 舞踊と演劇 が融合したダンスシアターであること。『百の言葉より一つの仕草が心を打つとき がある』と。言葉では伝えきれない感情を体で表現することは、どのジャンルも同 じだと確信し、感情の視覚化を目指した。
