Yamai Pottery was established in 1967 in the Tsumagi town, located in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture. Specializing in the Mino style.

Yamai Pottery Co., Ltd. is dedicated to hand making pottery that expresses the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi (finding beauty in organic imperfection). Since its establishment, the company has been producing pouch-shape Japanese tableware, by using “gaba” (slip) casting. Gaba casting is difficult to mechanize, and even today when automation has become such a common production process, this product is still handcrafted by artisans. In order to express the unique Japanese worldview of “wabi-sabi,” the company continues to create unique products with distinctive beautiful curves and shapes that can only be expressed through the combination of gaba casting and the red clay of the Mino region.
